There was this one summer, I must’ve been about 15. While most of my friends were relaxing or enjoying the break, I made a decision: Every morning, I’d get up early, grab my ball, and head to the local field.
I didn’t have anyone to train with, but that didn’t stop me. I’d spend hours working on my distribution, diving, and footwork - just me, the wall, and the ball.
Now, I didn’t know if my technique was perfect, Or if I was doing everything right. but I loved it… Why? Because every day, I could feel myself getting just a little better, a little fitter, and a little sharper. And that’s the key. Becoming a better goalkeeper isn’t just about what you do in team practice or when the coach is watching.
It’s also about what you do on your own.
Do you think the best goalkeepers got to where they are by only showing up to team practice a few times a week?
No way. They’ve trained extra.
They put in the work when no one was watching. And that’s exactly what you can do too.
